PLATELET-RICH PLASMA FACIAL

Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) is a service offered to improve skin rejuvenation, fade acne scars, diminish wrinkles and facial lines, reduce pore size, smooth under-eye skin, tighten facial tissues, and improve surface texture. Platelet-rich Plasma is also known to improve the appearance of stretch marks, and may even be used for hair restoration.

WHAT IS PRP?

Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) contains different cytokines and natural potent human growth factors which cause active stimulation in the fibroblasts.

HOW IT WORKS

This procedure is practiced first by drawing a small tube of blood from the patient’s arm. Then, the tube is spun in a centrifuge to help separate blood cells from the platelets. The platelet plasmas are then collected and inserted into the punctured micro-channels created by microneedling resulting in the production of collagen and elastic.

PRP BENEFITS

  • Rejuvenates skin

  • Fades acne scars

  • Corrects facial lines

  • Diminishes wrinkles

  • Smooths under-eye skin

  • Tightens facial tissues

  • Treats stretch marks

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

01

HOW IS PRP DIFFERENT THAN MICRONEEDLING?

During a standard microneedling session, micro-needles are used to puncture the skin and stimulate new collagen production. Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) may be added to microneedling sessions at an additional cost to improve the healing process. PRP also decreases redness and swelling caused post microneedling. Microneedling paired with PRP is said to improve the overall results for patients looking to minimize acne scars.

02

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Inflammation and bruising, including swelling and redness is expected immediately after the procedure. It is important during the healing period to avoid sun exposure and harsh skin treatments. Do not touch, rub, or pick at you face. Side effects typically clear within four to six days post treatment.

03

IS PRP RECOMMENDED FOR EVERYONE?

You are NOT a candidate for PRP if the following options apply:

  • Pregnant

  • Use/recently used Accutane for acne

  • Have active acne

  • Have certain skin conditions such as facial eczema or rosacea

  • Prone to easy scarring

  • Have a history of poor wound healing

  • Have undergone skin radiation in the last 12 months

04

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING RECOVERY?

PRP procedures typically require minimal recovery time. Patients will be able to return to their daily routines the following day. Redness and signs of irritation will still be visible, it is important to avoid major product application. Patients are advised to cleanse once a day and moisturize as needed. Avoid alcohol-based products and exfoliants and wear proper sun protection during your recovery period. Rigorous activities such as running and heavy workouts should be avoided for at least 72 hours post PRP treatment. Additional irritation may be caused by sweating, and rigorous exercise may increase swelling or bruising.
