HAIR RESTORATION

Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) is injected into the scalp to improve areas of hair loss. PRP is filled with growth factors which stimulate the hair follicles resulting in improved hair growth. Some common conditions that can be improved by microneedling and PRP include hair thinning from aging ,androgenic alopecia, alopecia areata, and tension/traction alopecia

HOW IT WORKS

PRP therapy has been practiced since the 1980s to alleviate problems such as healing injured tendons, ligaments, and muscles. PRP injections are believed to trigger natural hair growth by increasing blood supply to the hair follicles and increasing the hair shaft thickness. Using a three-step medical process, the patient’s blood is drawn, processed, and injected into the scalp.

THE PRP PROCESS

STEP 1

Blood is drawn typically from the patient’s arm, then placed into a centrifuge for several minutes.

STEP 2

After about 10 minutes, the patient’s blood will have separated into three layers: platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma, and red blood cells.

STEP 3

The platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

01

WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR PRP TREATMENTS FOR HAIR LOSS?

Patients with areas of deficient hair growth on the scalp with visible functioning hair follicles are ideal candidates for PRP treatments. Patients with areas of alopecia areata are also viable candidates.

02

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

PRP is a non-surgical procedure that typically takes about an hour. Improved hair growth typically takes 6-12 months to have visual results. Since PRP draws from the patient’s blood, it poses little to no risk of allergy, hypersensitivity, or foreign-body reactions.

03

WHAT ARE THE RISKS/SIDE EFFECTS?

Patients typically experience a brief inflammation period where the scalp appears slightly pink and numb for a few hours. Swelling is often rare, but takes about 1-2 days to resolve if it occurs.

04

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT POST PROCEDURE?

PRP treatments require minimal recovery time and no activity restriction. Clients may shower/shampoo/condition their hair a few hours after the procedure and may resume their everyday activities. No harsh chemical coloring or perming treatments should be performed on for a minimum of 72 hours. Laser therapy treatments may be resumed the following day of the procedure.
